Crying Out to the Lord

I've been using my son's NLT Chronological BIble lately and it's been helpful in figuring out which order the Bible stories happened. For example: Psalm 59 is listed directly after 1 Samuel 19. Psalm 59 was written by David regarding this time when Saul sent soldiers to his house to kill him.

I enjoyed reading Psalm 142 (David's prayer regarding the time he hid in a cave from Saul and his soldiers.) This prayer shows that David is looking to the Lord God for help - for relief, for direction, and to send godly people to help him. When David wrote this prayer, he had no idea what God had planned for his future. Not only would David be rescued and kept safe, but he would become the new King of Israel.

Psalm 142
1 I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord’s mercy.
2 I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles.
3 When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn.
Wherever I go,
my enemies have set traps for me.
4 I look for someone to come and help me,
but no one gives me a passing thought!

No one will help me;
no one cares a bit what happens to me.
(It's my opinion that David is probably very depressed and feeling sorry for himself. In 1 Samuel 20, Saul's own son Jonathan cared so deeply for David that he helped him escape. No one caring about what happened to him was probably stretching it. God did send people to care though. I
n 1 Samuel 22, we are told that David's brothers and relatives joined him at the cave in Adullam.)
5 Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, “You are my place of refuge.
You are all I really want in life.

6 Hear my cry, for I am very low.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
7 Bring me out of prison so I can thank you.
The godly will crowd around me,
for you are good to me.”
(What a blessing to have godly Christians around me and on the Internet to encourage me when I'm feeling down.)

I love Psalms. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving your sweet comment. I appreciate what you said. I have to spend much time on lyrics, and I usually don't think I'm very good at it. The music comes easier.
